Either it occurs due to the scooter’s faulty motor, the broken wire connectors, or a burnt fuse. You need to handle these issues very carefully not to damage the vehicle even more.

In this article, we would like to introduce you to some basic knowledge regarding e-scooter built-in parts and components to help you fix the scooter all by yourself.

The Major Parts Of An Electric Scooter

It may take a lot of time to figure out what problem your electric scooter has! Well, in that case, you need to have explicit knowledge of the significant components of it.

Generally, there are many parts in an electric scooter, but a few numbers of them are called the major parts, such as,

Fixing The Motor

Fixing The Motor Of Electric Scooter

Most electric scooters use a handily incorporated motor either into the hub of the front or the rear wheels. This simplifies its installation and maintenance. An attached motor with a scooter’s wheel makes it efficient to move smoothly on the ground. Whenever it gets slow, you can check on the motor to determine any loose wires or loose connections. Try not to have disconnected wire connectors while checking. But if you find anything like melting wires, it is due to the coils’ overheating.

Furthermore, check for defective speed controllers cause this may happen when it’s damaged due to a short circuit breaker. If anything like such happens, try to replace the electric scooter motors motor immediately.

Checking The Battery And Battery Charge

Do you perform heavy stunts or run your vehicle on unpaved watery grounds? Cause it is an easy way to damage the scooter batteries. The battery is an essential part of an e-scooter because it is a power source for the scooter motor. So, the battery issue can be another cause for a faulty motor. To prevent any battery damage, it’s recommended not to use any faulty charger and remove the device’s dead battery.

Remember to check the battery charger and the charger port as well. Plug it into a power outlet and look for any indicator light that is lit, which indicates the scooter is charging. If the charger is defective, then the indicator light won’t lit. Or else try to inspect charger output voltage level by using a multi-meter.

Test The Fuse or Circuit Breaker

Check for fuses in your electric scooters. It might happen that it has burnt, which is why the scooter stopped working. Remove the fuse and hold it upside down under a light to check if it’s burnt out or not. And if the scooter has a circuit breaker, push it on to see if it would reset.

A multimeter can help you to check if the circuit breaker is OK or not. Because even after you mechanically reset it, it still might not work. However, you can move the power switch on and off to check if the scooter runs appropriately.

Fixing The Brakes

Brakes are the safest feature of an electric scooter. Some scooter models are designed to have only the front or rear-wheel brake pads. And that is not great compared to the scooters’ current model with independent brakes on each wheel. However, any brake that your scooter has needs proper maintenance so that it doesn’t fail while you are riding.

Tightening your scooter’s brakes from time to time can prevent brake failure. Also, check your scooter’s brake lever switch, instructing the speed controller to turn off when the brakes are applied. Try disconnecting the brake lever wire, then run the scooter. If it runs fine, then the brake switch connector is the problem, which is why the motor’s not running.

A Few Other Things To Consider

Although, the facts we have talked about may not be the exact problems you are facing. We’d also discuss some other common issues in order to assist you in basic repairs.

If you find your speed controller doesn’t work correctly, then make sure to turn off the scooter’s power switch or key switch and let it rest for some time. Then start it again and try pushing it to run smoothly. Check the fuse or another compartment attached to the speed controller if this isn’t the case.

Then again, if your scooter shuts off while riding, you can press the engine’s reset button to reset it and let your scooter engine cool down. If the motor doesn’t engage when you kick-start it, you should check for any faulty switch and electrical wiring to reconnect it beneath the deck plate. Then, to test the scooter’s performance, try to ride a short distance.

Make sure not to cross the weight limit and overweight the scooter as it is one of the main reasons for influencing the speed mode. Most importantly, avoid being in the water with a mobility scooter with no water resistance.
